Help out at the picket line!

Over the course of the next month, union strikes will be taking place across the country in several sectors, including on our own campus. Show your solidarity by spreading some kindness on the picket lines! Bake some goodies, brew some warm drinks and join in the festivities to keep up a positive atmosphere amongst the crowds in this period of austerity.

Courage To Be: organised gay youth in England, 1967-1990

Join us for a lecture by Clifford Williams about the gay and lesbian youth groups that emerged around London from 1967 to 1990. This talk will also look at other gay and lesbian youth groups that emerged at the time, often with encouragement from the Joint Council for Gay Teenagers and the Gay Youth Movement. Dr Williams has trawled through archives, including those at LSE Library, and utilised social media networks to reconnect with many who, like himself, were there at the time. For those who attend in-person, there will be an opportunity to have a look at some archives on the subject of the talk.

Action, Gesture, Paint: Women Artists and Global Abstraction 1940-70

Whitechapel Gallery presents a major exhibition of 150 paintings from an overlooked generation of 81 international women artists.

Reaching beyond the predominantly white, male painters whose names are synonymous with the Abstract Expressionist movement, this exhibition celebrates the practices of the numerous international women artists working with gestural abstraction in the aftermath of the Second World War.
