Shedding Histories @ Grow Hackney

A familiar face in the anthropology department, Bena explores the roots of global sounds at his Shedding Histories events. Special guests will join him in spinning vinyl and providing general wholesomeness at canal side Grow Hackney, an experiment in ethical, community-centered business. Free entry.

Hew Locke: The Procession

Sculptor Hew Locke explores the ‘echoes of history’ through his constructed procession. Tate Britain’s founder was art lover and sugar refining magnate Henry Tate. In the installation Locke says he ‘makes links with the historical after-effects of the sugar business, almost drawing out of the walls of the building,’. Walking alongside the procession raises the question of what kind of future they are moving toward.

LSESU Drama Society’s ‘Three Sisters’

This adaptation of Chekhov’s ‘Three Sisters’ begins in a present-day London flat share. Claustrophobic and painfully reminiscent of student-living, the flat reeks of forgotten dreams and class divide. Our three sisters (and their quirky companions) grapple with the ever-looming threat of climate change, a cost of living crisis and technological advancement in a post-Covid world.

Indian Women Sexualised - LSE Events

When discussing military narratives, men’s stories are at the forefront while women’s stories often mentioned refer to experiences of nurses and widows. At this event Kiran Sahota will share how the nationally funded project Indian Women and War has been uncovering stories from the Second World War of Indian women’s involvement, contribution, and exploitation. The community-based project has aimed to bring the heritage of some of the UK’s minority groups to a wider audience.

The event will include screening of two short films and a ‘pop up’ exhibition of the project’s research.
